SANTA ROSA - MORUCA

Santa Rosa is a collection of small islands that are distinct  in the rainy season when the savannah floods, but are linked by paths and bridges that are crossable in the dry season. The main village Kumaka, has the Police Station, Hospital, Post Office and a cluster of shops.

The community has a beautiful environment, very quiet and peaceful. While there one can do walking, swimming, canoeing and boat rides.
The boat ride into Moruca from Charity is fantastic and well worth the time / money! You go to the mouth of the Pomeroon, up the coast, then back inland up the Moruca river through a tunnel of trees with immense roots, later opening into savannah country with floating reed beds and trees where the boatmen speed you over vegetation mats.

In Moruca uncle Basil is a local character who has written books and poems on the Amerindians and lives in Santa Rosa. He has a small library / shop selling local products and has been known to entertain many visitors to the area. He is worth visiting while there in that wonderfull place.
