Buck Man Knows

The pejorative term "Buck" for Amerindians of Guyana

According to the history of Guyana, the country was first colonized by the Dutch, then by the French and British. The pejorative term, “Buck” (feminine, BUCKEEN) was a term originally applied by the Dutch to any aboriginal Indian.  With such origin of the term, the word "buck"continued to be used by those who became the new colonizers of Amerindians after the country´s independence.

Reflection about Amerindians apart from what the video highlights

The video is very educating. It highlights the civilization of Amerindians in contrast to the western culture with their different customs, and way of living, which is, having a similar culture to the Ancient Greeks who influenced the world through their civilization, for example, with their oral culture, myths, rituals, Gods, arte paintings, among others.

Other examples which Amerindians contributed to the modern world are with things such as: rubber, tyre for cars, medicine, cigarette and many others which are useful commodities in the world, while in the academic field, Amerindian way of living that is, their freedom, humility, and state of being uncorrupt by society, has given  Jean-Jacques Rousseau the concept of them as the “noble savage"
Rousseau contended that man is essentially good, a "noble savage" when in the "state of nature" (the state of all the other animals, and the condition man was in before the creation of civilization and society), and that good people are made unhappy and corrupted by their experiences in society. He viewed society as "artificial" and "corrupt" and that the furthering of society results in the continuing unhappiness of man. ”

Rousseau was one of the enlightenment´s great intellectual, and father of democracy who´s political philosophy heavily influenced the French Revolution, as well as the American Revolution and the overall development of modern political, sociological and educational thought. This 17th century academic learnt from Amerindians that in their society there was no oppression, no enslavement, and no class division. He also learnt that everyone participates freely and cooperates with each other, which he adopts in his appeal for Democracy in society that time, called the Social Contract.
